Unify A Space

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
Joyce Kilmer (1886 - 1918), "Trees" (poem), 1914

If you'd like to find a ground cover to unify a space beneath some shrubs, I have a few to reccommend in today's tip. They are great in partial shade:

European wild ginger (Asarum europaeum) which has rounded, glossy evergreen leaves and grows to about 6 inches high and
barrenwort, or bishops hat ( Epimedium spp.), which has semi-evergreen leaves that seem to flutter over its wiry stems.

Either of these can help fill in an otherwise empty space among your shrubs and provide a lovely ground cover
